Jumie Akata

As a child, she stood out among her peers by crafting beautiful outfits for her doll using fabrics like asoke, Adire, and Ankara, often repurposed from local tailors’ waste bins. Her modern, unique designs were so distinct that other children began requesting outfits for their own dolls—a first glimpse of her creative spark.

ABOUT THE FOUNDER

Jumie’s mother played a pivotal role in shaping her perspective on style and culture. A woman of elegance, her mother’s fashion choices often granted her a commanding presence at events, capturing attention even as a casual guest. From her, Jumie learned that style is more than appearance—it’s an aura of confidence, boldness, and self-expression that speaks before words do.

After graduating from university, Jumie pursued her passion by interning at an African fashion house. There, she refined her craft and deepened her dedication to preserving traditional African techniques while infusing them with modern designs. Through Justafrik, Jumie aims to empower women to feel bold, confident, and connected to African roots, with timeless pieces that make a lasting impact.
